Hi, it's us.

Amarilys

Should we introduce ourselves?

Misty

They know who we are.

They don't. That's the whole point of this page.

Amarilys

Jack of all trades, master of none.

Amarilys was born into a home of Cuban immigrants and grew up in small-town Alabama. That is quite the combo. She can translate Southern country English and Spanish, if you're ever in need.

Growing up in a houseful of Cubans meant always trying to outdo all the other craziness in the house, which led to a quick wit and a house full of laughter.

By day she plans events and focuses on event technology. These days she's juggling work, church and family: her husband, Rhett, and their two daughters, Catalina and Nova.

Misty

Glitter, Taylor Swift and Life360.

Misty was born in Sweet Home Alabama! The daughter of a Southern Baptist preacher, mixed with severe ADHD and anxiety, is what produced the hot mess you hear on the show.

She married her high school sweetheart, Phillip, and has spent most of her adult life raising their three wonderfully made children, Isaac, Avri and Eli. Lately she's learning a brand-new job: mother-in-law.

As a special needs mom, Misty has a passion for special education advocacy and for not giving two craps what people think about her. She loves singing, podcasting and nervously tracking her children on Life360.

How this started

  1. 2020

The pandemic was hard for people like us. We need people to talk to and have fun with, and to be perfectly honest, our families weren't doing it for us. Sure, we love them. Sure, we take care of them. And sure, we'd punch your face off if you ever said one bad thing about any of them. But we were bored silly.

  2. Choir night

We had one night a week to get out of the house, and that was choir practice. Rehearsal went virtual, and our worship pastor needed a soprano and an alto to help teach the parts each week. Enter Amarilys and Misty, soprano and alto extraordinaire (in our own minds).

  3. One Wednesday

During a quick break, Misty leaned over and asked Amarilys for documentary recommendations. That was the moment the idea was born: record what we thought about whatever we were watching at home.

  4. Episode 1

We picked Bikram, and the rest is history. That first episode is still up, and the audio is horrendous, because Amarilys didn't (and still doesn't) know how to audio engineer a podcast.

  5. Now

It's been trial and error ever since, but boy have we laughed, and boy have we had fun getting to know so many new friends. We're so grateful for every one of you, and we can't wait for you to keep growing with us.

Our very first recording session, 2020. Yes, that's the horrendous-audio episode.

The thing we'll never agree on

Amarilys

Kids should go outside. Ride bikes. Come home when the streetlights come on.

Misty

Someone is trying to kidnap them.

Who?

Someone.

You won't even answer your own front door.

Not unless Phillip is home. Also, I have Life360 open right now.

Whose side are you on?

Where we're coming from

We're both women of faith. We met in a church choir, and one of us grew up a preacher's kid, so it comes up. You don't have to share it to be one of us. Everybody's welcome here, opinions included.

Misty

Now they know everything.

Amarilys

Not everything. Leave us a voicemail and tell us something about you.
